The Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of a female officer who died following an accident during a simulation exercise at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.
The NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Babawale Zaid Afolabi, disclosed this in a press statement, noting that the tragic incident occurred during a “Tactical Rescue Operation” simulation organised by the Female Strike Force to mark the 2026 World Civil Defence Day.
According to the statement, the deceased officer, Assistant Superintendent of Corps Ogbodo Ene Victoria, was involved in an auto accident during the exercise. She was immediately rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, Abuja, for urgent medical attention. However, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, she later passed on.
The Commandant General described the incident as shocking and painful, praying for the repose of the deceased officer’s soul while extending his heartfelt condolences to her family and the entire NSCDC nationwide.
He also directed a high-powered delegation from the Corps’ National Headquarters to visit the bereaved family to convey the sympathy of the service. Prof. Audi assured that the Corps would ensure a befitting burial for the late officer and facilitate the prompt payment of her post-service benefits.
While appealing to officers and men of the Corps to remain prayerful and committed to their duties, the NSCDC boss urged them not to be discouraged by the unfortunate development. He described the incident as a sad occurrence during a significant global event, encouraging personnel to remain focused on their responsibilities.
Prof. Audi further noted that the accident might have been avoided if adequate safety precautions and proper coordination had been put in place during the exercise. He therefore stressed the need for strict adherence to safety standards and operational protocols, especially during training and simulation activities, to prevent future workplace hazards.
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to improving safety measures in all its operations while honouring the sacrifice and dedication of the late officer.
