President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of security chiefs to Maiduguri, Borno State, following recent after three suspected suicide bombers detonated explosives at separate locations across the city in what appears to be a coordinated terrorist attack that left casualties and heightened tension across the state capital.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the President said the directive forms part of urgent federal measures to stabilise the security situation after coordinated attacks struck parts of Maiduguri, sparking widespread fear among residents.
Tinubu also directed emergency response agencies to ensure immediate and proper medical treatment for those injured in the attacks.
“Additionally, I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” the President said.
The President expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, extending condolences to families of the victims and sympathies to those wounded in the attacks.
He further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s solidarity with the people of Borno State amid renewed insurgent threats.
Describing the attacks as “desperate and frantic attempts” by terrorist elements facing sustained military pressure, Tinubu insisted that the violence would not weaken Nigeria’s determination to defeat insurgency.
He commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for repelling coordinated assaults on military positions, noting that their “courage and fighting spirit” helped prevent further escalation.
Tinubu also revealed that additional military equipment and operational support had recently been approved during a high-level security meeting, with implementation already underway to reinforce ongoing counterterrorism operations.
Reiterating his administration’s resolve to stamp out terrorism nationwide, the President declared that no part of Nigeria would be allowed to serve as a safe haven for criminal or terrorist groups.
“We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them,” he said.
Security has since been intensified across Maiduguri, while emergency responders continue medical interventions and damage assessments in the aftermath of the attacks.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm but remain highly vigilant as security operations continue.
