President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and citizens that the country will ultimately overcome its security challenges, stressing that the sacrifices of soldiers defending the nation will never be in vain.
The President gave the assurance on Friday during an interfaith breaking of fast with members of the Armed Forces at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the courage and professionalism of troops serving on various frontlines across the country.
Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced by soldiers, particularly those deployed to confront terrorists and bandits, noting that many of them remain away from their families while safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty.
“I have listened to the Chief of Army Staff on my recent approvals to the Nigerian Armed Forces. My duty is to thank all of you on behalf of a grateful nation, knowing fully well that many times you are without your families and that you stay away from them. Some of you are facing attacks by bandits and terrorists,” the President said.
He praised the Armed Forces for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting the country and its citizens.
“I commend your courage, sacrifice, and professionalism as you put your lives on the line in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens,” Tinubu added.
The President noted that the ongoing operations of security forces have continued to weaken the capabilities of terrorist groups and bandits operating in different parts of the country.
“You have been working to serve the country deeply and protect our sovereignty. This nation will always be grateful to you, and your sacrifices will not be in vain, I assure you,” he said.
Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of officers and soldiers through continued investment in modern equipment, intelligence gathering, and logistics to enhance operational effectiveness.
The President further thanked Nigerians for their patience and resilience amid ongoing economic reforms, expressing optimism about the country’s economic recovery.
“I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and that of fellow citizens, all the sacrifices are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel,” he stated.
He also extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State following a recent terrorist attack in the state.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, Oluwafemi Oluyede, represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, expressed appreciation to the President for approvals aimed at improving the welfare and operational capacity of the Armed Forces.
He said the approvals include an upward review of salaries for personnel of the Armed Forces, improved allowances for members of the Brigade of Guards, procurement of equipment, and the provision of improved accommodation for troops.
According to him, the measures would significantly enhance operational efficiency and boost the morale of personnel across the Armed Forces.
