The sustained military operations of troops under Operation HADIN KAI continue to yield positive results across Nigeria’s North East, with the latest success recorded in Ngoshe Town, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, where soldiers of the Nigerian Army thwarted a terrorist attack and restored full control of the area after a swift counter-offensive.
The successful operation underscores the growing stability gradually returning to parts of the North East, a development widely attributed to the renewed operational drive and frontline leadership of the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, who has continued to provide strategic direction and motivation for troops engaged in counter-terrorism operations.
Troops of the Nigerian Army under the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, successfully repelled the attack after terrorists attempted to overrun a military position in Ngoshe on March 3, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the insurgents launched the attack on the military location but were met with a swift and coordinated response from troops.
Reinforcement teams from Forward Operating Base Pulka and the 151 Battalion were immediately mobilised to support the troops at the embattled location.
During the reinforcement movement, the leading Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle encountered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which damaged two of its tyres. Despite the incident, the troops pressed forward with determination and continued their advance toward the location.
A special reinforcement team led by the Commander of the 26 Task Force Brigade in Gwoza, Brigadier General Nasirudeen Abdullahi, operating under Sector 1 of Operation HADIN KAI, later arrived at the scene and coordinated a decisive counter-attack that forced the terrorists to retreat from the area.
During the pursuit and exchange of fire, troops recovered three AK-47 rifles and a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) barrel abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI also played a critical role in the operation by providing heavy air support, which helped neutralise scores of the terrorists and further weakened their fighting capability.
Following the successful reoccupation of the military location and the subsequent exploitation of the surrounding area, Brigadier General Abdullahi addressed the troops, commending their gallantry, resilience and commitment to the mission. He urged them to sustain aggressive operations to further degrade terrorist elements operating within the region.
The successful defence of Ngoshe is widely seen as another indicator of the effectiveness of the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign under the leadership of the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, who has continued to lead from the front while assuring troops of improved welfare and the unwavering support of the Nigerian government.
