Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have destroyed suspected terrorist hideouts and recovered arms during a fighting patrol in Yankari Forest and adjoining areas of Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was conducted at about 5:30 p.m. on March 20, 2026, by troops of the 33 Artillery Brigade, as part of sustained efforts to flush out criminal elements and deny terrorists freedom of action in the area.
According to the sources, troops carried out a deliberate sweep of the forest and identified several hideouts and staging areas believed to be used by suspected terrorists for their operations.
A security source said the troops successfully destroyed the identified hideouts and neutralised threats within the general area during the operation.
Items recovered during the fighting patrol included two Dane guns.
The sources noted that the operation forms part of ongoing clearance efforts aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, restoring security in the forested parts of the state, and safeguarding surrounding communities.
They further assured that troops would continue to sustain aggressive patrols and clearance operations to ensure that Yankari Forest and neighbouring areas remain secure for residents, visitors, and other legitimate activities.
The latest operation underscores the military’s continued commitment under Operation Enduring Peace to stabilise vulnerable areas and prevent criminal elements from using remote forest corridors as safe havens.
