Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected gunmen in possession of illegal firearms at Gigina village in Dutsi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources disclosed that the suspects were apprehended at about 4:15 p.m. on March 19, 2026, by troops of 171 Battalion deployed at the Chinese Company location, following reports of gunshots in the area.
According to the sources, the gunshots triggered panic among residents of the community, prompting a swift military response.
A security source said the troops moved promptly to the scene and successfully arrested the suspects after they were found in possession of weapons.
Items recovered from the suspects included two Dane guns, two daggers, and two mobile phones.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly claimed to be hunters from Kwaram Tama and Shinkafi communities in Katsina State. However, security sources said the claim could not be immediately verified.
The suspects and the recovered items have since been handed over to the Divisional Police Station in Daura for further investigation and necessary action.
Security sources noted that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the military and other security agencies to curb the proliferation of illegal arms, respond swiftly to threats, and enhance public safety across Katsina State.
The latest arrest underscores the continued vigilance of troops in tackling armed violence and preventing criminal elements from exploiting local communities.
