The Naval Base Abuja and the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Medical Centre, Abuja, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery and improving personnel welfare within the Armed Forces.

This followed a courtesy visit by the Commander, Defence Headquarters Medical Centre, Abuja, Surgeon Captain James Adakole Adaji, to the Commander, Naval Base Abuja, Commodore Oluseyi Ekundayo Oladipo, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

The high-level engagement focused on consolidating existing ties between both military medical institutions, with discussions centred on improving medical support systems and identifying strategic areas for enhanced service delivery.

Particular attention was given to the current state of the Naval Base sick bay, as well as practical steps toward securing National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) accreditation, a move expected to further strengthen access to quality healthcare services for personnel and their families.

During the visit, both commanders reaffirmed their shared commitment to sustained synergy and closer institutional cooperation in advancing military healthcare standards.

As part of the engagement, an on-the-spot assessment was also conducted during a guided tour of the Naval Medical Centre, Asokoro, providing an opportunity for firsthand evaluation of facilities and operational needs.

The visit underscored a collective resolve by both the Nigerian Navy and the Defence Headquarters Medical Centre to optimise healthcare delivery systems, improve medical readiness, and promote the overall welfare of personnel within the service.

The renewed collaboration is seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen support structures for military personnel through efficient, accessible, and sustainable healthcare services.
