Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled a terrorist attack in Kumchi Baba village, Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, and recovered 47 rustled goats during a follow-up clearance operation.
Security sources disclosed that the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on March 19, 2026, when troops of 1 Battalion (Reinforced), in collaboration with Forest Rangers, swiftly responded to credible reports of terrorist activities in the area.
According to the sources, the rapid intervention by the troops disrupted the attackers’ plans, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee towards the Nigeria–Niger Republic border.
Following the initial contact, reinforcements from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kangiwa and Battalion Headquarters linked up with troops at Kumchi Baba, after which a deliberate offensive operation was launched towards Tukoy and Goru villages along the border corridor.
A security source said the terrorists fled in disarray on sighting the advancing troops.
“The troops maintained pressure on the fleeing suspects and, in the course of the pursuit, successfully apprehended one of the terrorists in possession of 47 rustled goats,” the source stated.
The arrested suspect and the recovered livestock have since been moved to Birnin Kebbi for further investigation and necessary action.
The operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s continued resolve, in collaboration with other security stakeholders, to deny terrorists freedom of action, protect border communities, and safeguard lives and property in Kebbi State and surrounding areas.
