Joint security forces have intensified ongoing offensive operations in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, resulting in the discovery and destruction of multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during a coordinated clearance mission.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out at about 9:30 a.m. on March 19, 2026, along the Eketutu–Uda community axis, by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
According to the sources, troops initially discovered and safely detonated one IED along the Eketutu Market–Uda axis during the early phase of the operation.
Further advancement along the route led to the discovery of eight additional IEDs, which were carefully disconnected and recovered by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
A security source said all the recovered devices were subsequently defused and destroyed in-situ to eliminate any potential threat to both troops and residents in the area.
In the course of exploiting the general area, troops also identified a suspected criminal hideout. A thorough search of the location led to the recovery of six live cartridges, three batteries suspected to be components for IED fabrication, a black face mask, and an unserviceable handheld radio.
Sources further confirmed that the operation remains ongoing, with security personnel sustaining pressure on criminal elements and suspected terrorist networks operating within the axis.
The coordinated offensive is part of the broader and sustained efforts by security agencies to dismantle terrorist infrastructure, neutralise emerging threats, and restore peace and normalcy across the South-East region.
