The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has called on officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to embrace unity, compassion, integrity and professionalism as Muslims and Christians observe the sacred seasons of Ramadan and Lent.
Speaking at the Interdenominational Fitra Dinner held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP described the gathering as a deeply symbolic event that reflects the shared values of service, sacrifice, discipline and devotion among police personnel, regardless of religious differences.
He said the event was not only about breaking fast, but also about promoting reflection, unity and a stronger sense of togetherness within the Force.
According to him, the rare coincidence of Ramadan and Lent this year offers a powerful opportunity for spiritual renewal, humility, prayer and self-restraint.
He noted that both holy periods serve as reminders of the need for compassion, patience and the importance of serving humanity beyond personal interests.
IGP Disu stressed that the gathering sends a strong message that the Nigeria Police Force remains a family united in diversity, adding that differences in religion and tradition should be seen as a source of strength rather than division.
He urged officers to use the sacred season to deepen the values of patience in dealing with members of the public and one another, integrity in service, kindness to the vulnerable, and renewed commitment to justice, fairness and professionalism.
The police boss also paid tribute to officers currently on duty across the country, including those serving at checkpoints, in remote communities and other difficult environments, noting that their sacrifice remains the backbone of police operations nationwide.
He prayed for peace in Nigeria, strength for police personnel, and comfort for citizens in need, expressing hope that the prayers and sacrifices of the season would contribute to a safer, more united and prosperous country.
The Interdenominational Fitra Dinner brought together police personnel in a show of religious harmony and solidarity, underscoring the Force’s commitment to unity and peaceful coexistence.
