The Defence Attachés of the United Kingdom and Germany to Nigeria, Brigadier Tom Harper and Colonel Boris Bovecamp, have commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sustained efforts in combating terrorism and insurgency in the North East, particularly through Operation HADIN KAI.
The attachés gave the commendation during a historic visit to the Headquarters of the Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI, in Maiduguri on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, where they also reaffirmed their countries’ continued support and collaboration with Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the defence officials expressed appreciation for the professionalism and resilience of Nigerian troops in degrading terrorist networks in the region.
Speaking during the visit, Brigadier Tom Harper highlighted the strong mutual respect and enduring relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He emphasized the shared commitment of both countries to the rule of law, democracy, and human rights.
He also reaffirmed the UK’s readiness to sustain training and advisory support through the British Military Advisory and Training Team (BMATT), noting that enhanced training would further strengthen the operational capacity of Nigerian forces.
Similarly, the Defence Attaché of Germany to Nigeria, Colonel Boris Bovecamp, said his visit was aimed at exploring future areas of collaboration, particularly in capacity building and regional cooperation. He noted that strengthened partnerships and coordinated interventions would improve operational effectiveness and collective efforts to defeat terrorism.
In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, appreciated the contributions of the United Kingdom and Germany to ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
He noted that various training initiatives have significantly improved troops’ skills, professionalism, and readiness to respond to evolving security threats in the theatre. He also stressed the mutual benefits of the partnerships and identified future areas of cooperation, including technical expertise, as well as equipment and logistics support.
The visit underscores growing international collaboration and support for Nigeria’s efforts to restore peace and stability in the North East region.
