The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) National Youth Committee, in partnership with Rotaract District 9127 FCT and 02Fit Zone, on Saturday organised a Peace Walk in Abuja to promote national unity, peaceful coexistence, and social harmony.

The event, tagged “Wuye Rock Hiking, Harmony in Diversity,” formed part of ongoing advocacy efforts to strengthen peace, unity, and national cohesion across communities in Nigeria. It drew participation from youth leaders, stakeholders, and members of the public who converged to spread the message of collective responsibility in building a stable and prosperous nation.

According to a press statement signed by the Director, Global Communications and Media Relations of the PCRC National Youth Committee, Olayemi Esan, the walk emphasised the importance of dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect as key tools for preventing conflict and fostering sustainable development.

Speaking during the event, the National Youth Coordinator of the PCRC, Engr. Junaid Olatunji Victor, said the advocacy centred on the theme “Harmony in Diversity.” He noted that despite Nigeria’s ethnic, religious, and cultural differences, the country’s greatest strength lies in its unity and shared purpose.

He urged Nigerians to silence the guns, reject violence, and embrace peace as the foundation for national prosperity and growth. According to him, the cost of managing wars, violence, and social unrest is far greater than the cost of preventing conflict through peaceful engagement.

Victor stressed that preventing chaos safeguards lives, protects shared prosperity, and strengthens national stability. He described peace as non-negotiable and called on citizens to promote inclusiveness, understanding, and national integration at all levels.

The PCRC National Youth Committee also reaffirmed its support for the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies, commending their efforts in maintaining law and order across the country. The committee urged citizens to sustain cooperation and trust with security personnel, noting that effective community policing is critical to achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria.

Participants were further encouraged, especially young people, to become ambassadors of peace in their communities by promoting dialogue, discouraging violence, and embracing diversity.

The organisers expressed optimism that through sustained engagement and partnership, Nigeria can build a society where peace reigns, diversity is celebrated, and progress is shared by all.
