The Oyo State Police Command has recorded another significant operational success following the recovery of large quantities of suspected illicit drugs from a criminal hideout in Ibadan.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed that the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence supplied by a strategic and progressive partner of the Command. The intelligence indicated that an apartment located along Abanise Street, Academy area, Olomi, Ibadan, was being used to stockpile illicit drugs.

According to the statement, the apartment allegedly belongs to one Oluwadamilare Adedayo (male), who is suspected to be involved in the storage and distribution of illegal substances. Acting swiftly on the information, detectives were deployed to the location to verify and act on the intelligence.

A thorough search of the apartment and its immediate surroundings led to the recovery of nine bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 101 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Canadian Loud, as well as other hard and illicit drugs. All recovered items have been secured as exhibits, effectively disrupting a suspected drug distribution network within the area.

The suspect was not found at the scene during the operation. However, on the express directive of the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, intensive surveillance and a coordinated manhunt have been launched to apprehend him.

The Commissioner of Police commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his strategic leadership, operational guidance, and continued support, which have strengthened intelligence-led policing across the country. He also praised the effective collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, other sister security agencies, and community stakeholders for their cooperation and timely intelligence that ensured the success of the operation.

The Command noted that the development underscores its proactive approach to policing, aimed at curbing the circulation of illicit drugs, which are known to fuel violent crimes and other forms of criminality in the state.

The Oyo State Police Command reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to combating crime in all its forms and urged members of the public to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.
