Nigerian Navy Strengthens Bilateral Ties With Egyptian Navy Through Cross-Attachment Visit

The Nigerian Navy has further reinforced its international partnerships following a recent cross-attachment visit to the Egyptian Navy, aimed at enhancing maritime security cooperation and operational capacity between both nations.

The delegation, led by Rear Admiral Ikenna Ubani, engaged in high-level interactions with Egyptian naval authorities, focusing on key areas of bilateral collaboration. These included specialised training, acquisition of modern naval platforms, and technical skills transfer to boost the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Navy.

During the visit, the Nigerian team toured critical Egyptian naval facilities and maritime infrastructure. They also observed various naval operations, gaining valuable insights into advanced operational procedures, maintenance systems, and maritime domain awareness strategies employed by the Egyptian Navy.

The engagement provided an opportunity for both navies to share best practices and explore innovative approaches to addressing common maritime threats such as piracy, illegal fishing, smuggling, and other transnational crimes within their respective regions.

The visit forms part of Nigeria’s broader strategic efforts to deepen cooperation with partner navies across the globe, in line with the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to strengthening maritime security and improving operational readiness.

An Egyptian naval delegation is expected to undertake a reciprocal visit to Nigeria in April 2026. The forthcoming engagement is anticipated to further solidify defence ties, promote mutual understanding, and advance collaborative initiatives between the two countries.
