The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has deployed thousands of security personnel across the Territory as part of its comprehensive operational strategy for the February 21, 2026 FCT Area Council Elections.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the massive deployment involves a robust collaboration and exchange of operational and human resources among sister security agencies. These include the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other relevant agencies.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc., charged all deployed officers and personnel to maintain the highest level of professionalism while ensuring adequate security at all polling units and collation centres. He emphasised the need to guarantee a peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral process.
CP Dantawaye further warned that officers must remain vigilant, impartial, and courteous in the discharge of their duties, stressing the importance of respecting the rights of all citizens throughout the election period.
The Command also informed the public that there will be a restriction of movement across the FCT from 6:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday, February 21, 2026, except for essential service providers and election officials. Residents were urged to cooperate fully with security personnel and comply with all security guidelines during the period.
The Police reassured residents of their commitment to providing adequate security and encouraged eligible voters to come out peacefully to exercise their civic responsibility without fear.
