FCT Police Announce Movement Restriction Ahead Of Area Council Elections

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a restriction of movement across the territory ahead of the Area Council Elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.


In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Miller G. Dantawaye, psc., disclosed that the restriction will be enforced from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day to ensure the safety of voters and the integrity of the electoral process.


According to the statement, the restriction will apply to all residents within the FCT. However, essential service providers and duly accredited election officials will be exempted to enable smooth conduct of the exercise.


The Command urged residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and fully cooperate with security agencies before, during, and after the elections. It further assured that adequate security measures have been put in place to guarantee a safe, free, and credible electoral process across the six Area Councils.


The Police also warned that anyone found violating the restriction order or engaging in acts capable of disrupting the elections would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
