The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is currently in its custody in connection with ongoing investigations.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the Commission disclosed that the former governor is being held as part of efforts to deepen inquiries into matters under its purview. The statement, signed by the Head of Media and Public Communications and Spokesperson, J. Okor Odey, noted that El-Rufai remained in the custody of the anti-corruption agency as of the close of work on the day.

According to the Commission, the development is strictly related to investigative processes, and further details would be made available as the probe progresses.

The ICPC reaffirmed its commitment to due process, transparency, and the rule of law in carrying out its mandate to combat corruption and promote accountability in public service. It also urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the Commission to conduct its investigations without interference.

El-Rufai served as Governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023 and has remained a prominent figure in national politics. The ICPC, however, did not provide specifics on the allegations or timeline for the conclusion of its investigation.

The Commission emphasized that all individuals under investigation are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
