The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has congratulated Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (Rtd), mni, fnipr, fapra, fnarc, FIOARM, fspsp, as he marks his birthday, describing him as a distinguished patriot, strategic communicator and Sentinel of Freedom.
In a statement issued on behalf of the National Executive Council, the Executive Committee and the entire AANI membership, the AANI President, Emmanuel Obi Okafor, mni, said the occasion provides an opportunity to celebrate a life defined by service, sacrifice, integrity and uncommon commitment to national development.
According to him, Brigadier General Usman’s distinguished military career, particularly his tenure as Director of Army Public Relations and Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, set enduring standards in professional military communication, civil–military relations and strategic engagement with both the Nigerian public and the international community.
The AANI President noted that beyond active military service, the retired senior officer has continued to contribute meaningfully to nation-building through thought leadership, mentorship of young professionals, scholarly engagement, public policy advocacy and unwavering service to professional institutions, including AANI, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
He described Brigadier General Usman as a respected bridge builder and unifier whose honesty, loyalty and respect for institutions have earned him admiration across military and civilian circles, adding that his calm disposition and principled leadership have consistently inspired trust and consensus.
The statement further highlighted his impactful service as National Publicity Secretary of AANI, where he brought professionalism, clarity, credibility and strategic direction to the Association’s communications, strengthening AANI’s national relevance as a community of strategic thinkers and policy influencers.
AANI also expressed pride in the recent national honour bestowed on Brigadier General Usman by the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria with the Sentinel of Freedom Service Award, describing it as a fitting recognition of his lifelong commitment to national security, unity and stability.
“As you celebrate today, we salute your courage, intellect, humility and devotion to AANI, Nigeria and humanity,” the statement read, while offering prayers for continued good health, renewed strength and greater opportunities for service.
The Association concluded by wishing him a happy birthday and reaffirming its commitment to the ideals he represents.
