Troops of 1 Division/Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have successfully foiled a bandit attack and neutralized one suspected violent extremist during a snap ambush operation in the Maraban Rido general area of Kaduna State.
The operation followed a distress call received late on 22 January 2026, reporting the presence of armed bandits who had rustled livestock in Anguwan Fulan village, Rido area. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops deployed to the location and conducted a hasty ambush aimed at intercepting the fleeing criminals.
On arrival, troops made contact with the bandits and engaged them with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to retreat in disarray, some sustaining gunshot wounds. Exploiting the success of the initial engagement, the troops carried out aggressive follow-up operations in the surrounding forested areas, including the Kankomi Forest.
During the exploitation, troops made further contact with the criminals at a suspected crossing point around Anguwan Sarki, where one suspected terrorist was neutralized. The remaining bandits fled into the forest under pressure from the advancing troops.
The operation underscores the resolve of troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to respond promptly to distress calls and sustain offensive actions against banditry and other forms of violent extremism in Kaduna State and the wider North-West region. Members of the public are encouraged to continue to provide timely and credible information to security forces to aid ongoing operations.
