The Oyo State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its investigation into the deadly armed banditry attack on the Old Oyo National Park, with the arrest of seven suspected members of the gang responsible for the incident.
The arrests follow an intelligence-driven operation launched after the attack on 6 January 2026, when armed bandits reportedly stormed the Old Oyo National Park office in the Oloka area of Orire Local Government Area at about 9:00 p.m. The attackers, who arrived on motorcycles and were armed with sophisticated firearms, assaulted forest rangers and other operatives, leading to the death of five persons.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspects arrested include the alleged mastermind and ring leader of the ten-man armed banditry gang.and ha
He explained that three suspects were initially arrested and later confessed to their roles in the attack, revealing that the operation was carried out by ten gang members riding on five motorcycles.
