The Kaduna State Security Council has debunked media reports alleging the abduction of over 200 worshippers from a church in Kurmin Wali community, Kajuru Local Government Area of the state.
This clarification followed an emergency meeting of the Security Council held on Monday, 19 January 2026, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna. The meeting was chaired by the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Governor, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Commissioners for Internal Security, Local Government, and Justice/Attorney-General, about 12 Local Government Chairmen, as well as heads of security agencies operating in the state.
The emergency meeting was convened to address widespread media reports claiming that more than 200 worshippers had been abducted during a church service at Kurmin Wali community in Kajuru LGA.
Briefing the council, security agencies confirmed that the reported abduction did not occur. It was disclosed that troops led by the Commander, Sub-Sector 5, Captain (NN) M. Adamu, alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area, had already carried out an on-the-ground assessment in the community.
According to the findings presented at the meeting, the situation in Kurmin Wali was calm, with no record of mass abduction or related security breach.
At the end of the meeting, the Governor, the Commissioner for Internal Security, the Commissioner of Police, and the Kajuru Local Government Chairman jointly dismissed the report as false and unfounded, urging the public to disregard the misinformation.
The Kaduna State Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state and cautioned against the spread of unverified security information capable of causing panic.
The meeting ended at about 5:30 p.m. on 19 January 2026.
