The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports suggesting that it has released a timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on January 2, 2026, and signed by Adedayo Oketola, Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, the commission clarified that no official timetable for the 2027 polls has been published.
INEC emphasized that it remains guided strictly by the provisions of the law, particularly Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which mandates the commission to publish a notice of election not later than 360 days before the date of a general election.
The commission reassured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election will be released in due course, in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act, 2022.
INEC further urged members of the public and the media to disregard unverified information and rely solely on its official communication channels for accurate and timely updates.
