FCT Police Arrest Notorious “One Chance” Armed Robbery Suspects For Murder Of Barrister Chigbo

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its sustained fight against violent crime with the arrest of three notorious armed robbery suspects linked to “one-chance” criminal operations within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The suspects are alleged to be responsible for the gruesome murder of a legal practitioner, Barrister Chigbo Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Edeh, the Command disclosed that the arrests followed clear directives by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Miller Dantawaye, mandating the swift identification and prosecution of all individuals connected to the heinous crime and similar offences across the FCT.

According to the statement, operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, between 5 and 10 January 2026, leveraged reconstructive digital intelligence to track the victim’s mobile phone. This intelligence-led operation resulted in follow-up actions at Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Dan-Tata communities within the Kubwa Area of the FCT.

The operations culminated in the arrest of:

  • Saifullahi Yusuf (22), from Kaduna State, resident at Dan-Tata Community, Dei-Dei, Abuja;
  • Ishau Yusuf (24), also from Kaduna State and resident at Dan-Tata Community, Dei-Dei, Abuja; and
  • Minka’ilu Jibril, popularly known as Dan-Hajia, from Kaduna State.

Police investigations revealed that the first and second suspects are biological brothers and active members of a notorious “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate that has operated intermittently within the FCT for several years, particularly during festive periods.

Preliminary findings further established that on 5 January 2026, at about 5:50 p.m., the victim unknowingly boarded the suspects’ black Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway. Shortly after, the suspects allegedly wound up the tinted windows, threatened her with weapons, and attempted to extort ransom for her release. When she reportedly resisted, she was physically assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle, an act that led to her death.

The suspects allegedly dispossessed the victim of her Android mobile phone, which was later sold at Dei-Dei for ₦120,000. From the proceeds, Minka’ilu Jibril reportedly received ₦30,000, Saifullahi Yusuf ₦15,000, while Ishau Yusuf and another suspect currently at large, identified as Musa, shared the remaining sum.

Items recovered during the arrest include five pairs of scissors, two sharp daggers, two knives, a long chain used for restraining victims, and one plier. These exhibits are believed to have been used in the commission of their criminal activities.

The Command stated that investigations are ongoing, with intensified efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle any additional criminal networks linked to the syndicate.

Commending the professionalism and dedication of the operatives, CP Miller Dantawaye reassured residents of the FCT of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ridding the nation’s capital of criminal elements.

Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant, avoid boarding unregistered or suspicious vehicles, and promptly report suspicious activities through the FCT Police emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
