"DEPOWA Sustained Enduring Sisterhood, Shared Sacrifice and Collective Sense of Purpose" - Says Mrs Musa, Celebrated for Legacy of Service, Compassion and Unity

The former President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa, has been honoured for her impactful leadership and enduring contributions to family welfare, women empowerment and community development within the defence and police community.

Speaking at a special dinner held in her honour, the wife of the minister, and former President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Oghogho Musa, described her time in office as one of the most fulfilling chapters of her life, emphasising that DEPOWA is sustained not by positions or timelines but by enduring sisterhood, shared sacrifice and a collective sense of purpose. Speaking at a farewell gathering held in her honour, Mrs Musa said the association’s strength lies in women supporting one another with sincerity, compassion and commitment to service.

She noted that her administration prioritised welfare, empowerment and institutional strengthening, stressing that projects embarked upon were designed for long-term impact rather than short-term visibility. Mrs Musa highlighted the DEPOWA College as a flagship initiative close to her heart, describing its completion as essential for continuity, education and the future of members’ children. 

She urged the current leadership to remain focused, united and resolute in ensuring the project is completed, adding that leadership transitions should reinforce institutions through continuity and protection of existing gains.

As she steps into a new phase of life and service, Mrs Musa affirmed that her bond with DEPOWA remains unbroken, expressing gratitude for the support, friendships and privilege of serving alongside women of purpose. 

She conveyed warm greetings from her husband, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Honourable Minister of Defence, who she said deeply appreciates the goodwill shown to their family and the association. 

Mrs Musa called on members to continue working together to support families, strengthen communities and uphold the values of service and compassion, stressing that while seasons may change, love, legacy and service endure.

Earlier in her welcome remarks, President of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Meinam Femi Oluyede described Mrs Musa's leadership as being defined by impact rather than position, noting that the gathering was a moment of collective appreciation for purposeful and compassionate service. 

She highlighted that under Mrs Musa's stewardship, DEPOWA strengthened its focus on family welfare, youth development and community outreach, reinforcing the role of strong families in building resilient institutions and a secure nation.

Reaffirming the association’s core values of unity, service, compassion and excellence, the DEPOWA Presidenylt Mrs Oluyede expressed gratitude for her exemplary leadership, mentorship and commitment to the growth and cohesion of the association.

She assured her of continued support, prayers and goodwill. The occasion also witnessed the presence of former DEPOWA presidents, fondly acknowledged as “esteemed mothers,” whose visionary leadership has shaped the association over the years.

In her goodwill message, the President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs Saffiyah Hassan Shaibu, commended the immediate past President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association, Mrs Oghogho Gwabin Musa, for her visionary leadership and enduring legacy. 

The commendation was delivered in a goodwill message at the event, presented on her behalf by Mrs Gbonjubola Adeyinka, where she described the occasion not as a farewell but a celebration of a journey marked by dedication, unity and impactful service. She noted that Mrs Musa’s unwavering commitment to welfare and cohesion strengthened bonds within DEPOWA and across sister associations, leaving a legacy that will stand the test of time.

Mrs Shaibu further expressed NAOWA’s appreciation for the strong partnership and cooperation enjoyed with DEPOWA under Mrs Musa’s leadership, highlighting shared ideas, mutual support and the spirit of sisterhood that binds the associations together. 

She wished Mrs Musa continued success, good health and fulfillment in her new assignment, expressing confidence that her positive influence would continue wherever she serves. While congratulating DEPOWA for its unity and for honouring service rendered with love and commitment, she reaffirmed that Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association remains proud to stand with DEPOWA as sisters and partners united by shared values and a common purpose.

The President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Mrs Elizabeth Egbetokun, in her goodwill remark commended the immediate past President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Oghogho-Gwabin Musa, for her outstanding service and exemplary leadership. 

Mrs Egbetokun said Mrs Musa’s tenure as President of Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association was marked by uncommon dedication, integrity and a clear sense of purpose in advancing the ideals and objectives of the association, describing her leadership as visionary and impactful.

She noted that Mrs Musa’s administration prioritised empowerment, unity and sustainable development, leading to significant growth, strengthened institutional structures and enhanced relevance of the association within the wider community. According to her, Mrs Musa led with grace, resilience and compassion, fostering cooperation among members and stakeholders while navigating challenges with wisdom and foresight to ensure continuity and stability. 

Mrs Egbetokun added that although her tenure has formally ended, the legacy of initiatives she introduced will continue to guide future leadership, wishing her good health, peace and greater success in her future endeavours on behalf of Police Officers’ Wives Association.
