The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has affirmed that sustained security operations in the South South region are vital to national economic stability and align with his command philosophy.

Lt General Shaibu said this on Friday, 9 January 2026, during his maiden operational visit to the  6 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters at Port Harcourt Barracks.

Addressing troops at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground, the COAS assured personnel that welfare remains a top priority of his command. He explained that his ongoing visits to formations and units across the country are aimed at obtaining firsthand assessments of operational readiness and identifying challenges affecting troops on the ground.

The COAS noted that deliberate steps are already being taken to address identified challenges.

He emphasized that the well-being of officers, soldiers, and their families remains central to his leadership approach, while charging troops to remain steadfast in protecting critical national infrastructure.

The Army Chief further urged troops of the Division to sustain professional conduct and disciplined operations to support increased oil production in the Niger Delta Region.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, briefed the COAS on the Division’s ongoing operations and security activities in the Niger Delta.
