The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Wara Bello Idris, has affirmed that the days of notorious bandit kingpin Bello Turji are numbered, declaring that the criminal terrorists “will soon be history,”just as a Federal High Court, Abuja issued a bench warrant for Turji’s arrest.
Major General Idris made the assertion when he received Defence Correspondents from Abuja in his office during an operational tour to the North West.
The Theatre Commander explained that troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have continued to degrade bandit enclaves, disrupt logistics routes, and neutralise key collaborators through intelligence-driven operations, while also working closely with other security agencies to track wanted persons.
He also disclosed that recent operations have led to the recovery of arms and ammunition, the destruction of bandit camps, and increased freedom of movement for residents along previously threatened corridors. The Theatre Commander noted that these gains have significantly weakened the operational capacity of Turji’s network.
Major General Idris stressed that the mission of the Armed Forces goes beyond containment or reduction of terrorist activities, emphasizing that the objective is total eradication.
The Theatre Commander reaffirmed the military’s resolve to deploy all available resources, manpower, and equipment to achieve a permanent end to insecurity in the region.
He underscored that the Armed Forces remain bound by their constitutional oath to see the mission through, describing the restoration of security and stability as a non-negotiable national duty.
Addressing the role of the press, Major General Idris described journalists as “warriors on the screen and in print,” urging them to see themselves as strategic partners within the national security architecture.
He noted that accurate and responsible reporting of military operations is critical to sustaining public confidence and boosting troop morale.
The Theatre Commander also warned against the dangers of misinformation, describing false narratives as “vehicles of chaos” and a serious threat to national security. He called on media organisations to strengthen fact-checking processes and professional standards in reporting security-related issues.
To ensure accuracy and balance, he urged journalists to work closely with military liaison and media officers to verify information—whether positive or adverse—before publication.
He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and sustained collaboration with the media in the collective effort to restore peace and security across the North West and the country at large.
