The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has provided clarification on the precautionary diversion of one of its C-130 aircraft during a ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December 2025.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Air Force explained that shortly after takeoff from Lagos, the crew detected a technical concern that required immediate attention. In line with international aviation standards and established safety protocols, the pilots executed a precautionary landing at the nearest suitable airfield — Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso.
According to Ejodame, the crew landed safely and has since received warm and professional assistance from the host authorities. He emphasized that the diversion was purely a safety measure and not an emergency situation.
He added that plans are already underway to resume the ferry mission as scheduled once all necessary checks have been completed.
The Nigerian Air Force expressed appreciation to Burkina Faso’s authorities for their cooperation and reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to operational safety. NAF, he noted, continues to strictly adhere to globally recognized aviation procedures to protect its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
