The Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed, has sought closer collaboration with the Nigerian Navy in research focused on strategic maritime and defence policy areas.
Rear Admiral Ahmed made the request on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, during a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
While congratulating the CNS on his appointment, the Commandant expressed appreciation for the warm reception and acknowledged the enduring partnership between the College and the Nigerian Navy. He noted that such collaboration remains critical to advancing strategic military education and achieving national security objectives.
Rear Admiral Ahmed briefed the CNS on recent developments at the College, particularly its planned relocation to a permanent site. He disclosed that construction work on the new facilities is ongoing and appealed for continued support from the Navy and other Services to ensure a seamless transition.
He also highlighted challenges relating to accommodation and infrastructure, as well as plans to enhance collaboration with Defence Attachés and review the College’s curriculum to address emerging security dynamics.
In his response, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas commended the College for its pivotal role in developing strategic-level officers and contributing to national defence. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to supporting the NDC, pledging to assist in tackling accommodation constraints and facilitating the College’s move to its permanent site.
