The Anambra State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement across the state on Saturday, November 8, 2025, the day of the governorship election.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Command said the restriction would be in effect from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Election Day. It will apply to all forms of motorized transportation — including private and commercial vehicles, trucks, tricycles, motorcycles, and shuttle buses — within and across the state, as well as on interstate highways.
According to the statement, the decision followed a meeting of security service commanders held at the State Police Headquarters in Awka on November 5, 2025. The measure aims to prevent the movement of political thugs and criminal elements who may attempt to disrupt the electoral process.
The police, however, noted that individuals on essential duties such as designated INEC officials, accredited journalists, election observers, medical personnel, emergency responders, and other essential service providers will be exempted from the restriction, provided they carry valid identification and clearance tags at all times.
SP Ikenga urged residents to comply with the security arrangement, emphasizing that it was designed to safeguard lives and property, ensure a peaceful election atmosphere, and allow voters to freely exercise their civic rights.
He also appealed to the electorate to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel who have been deployed across the state to enforce the directive and maintain public order during the election.
