Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have recorded major breakthroughs in the ongoing fight against kidnapping, armed criminality, and illegal possession of ammunition across the state. The latest successes, achieved through coordinated intelligence-led operations, resulted in the arrest of several suspected kidnappers, the rescue of abducted victims, and the recovery of 178 live cartridges.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, the operatives of Bomadi Division, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Adie Peter Bissong, intercepted a motorcycle along the Bomadi–Tuomo Road on October 30, 2025, around 12:30 p.m.
The rider, who appeared uneasy, was conveying a 62-year-old woman, later identified as Charter Timide, to Tuomo Community. Upon a thorough search, the police discovered a concealed sack containing 178 live cartridges neatly packed for delivery.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to purchasing the ammunition from Onitsha Main Market, prompting further investigation to trace the source and intended recipients. The suspect and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Headquarters for discreet investigation.
In a separate operation, the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan Division, CSP Labe Joseph, led a rescue mission following a distress call about a kidnapping incident at Ubeji Community, near the Ubeji Gas Plant.
Police operatives, acting swiftly, stormed the area and tracked the suspects to an abandoned poultry house where they had taken cover. The team successfully arrested seven suspects identified as Felix Omone (33), Solomon Omone (29), Tony Eboye (34), Omone David (32), Jerry Omone (33), Godspower Omone (25), and Edewho Bomele (33) — all residents of Ubeji Community.
Three abducted victims from Jeddo Community were rescued unhurt and have since been reunited with their families. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were kidnapped at a dredging site in Ubeji and ferried across the river while ransom demands were being made.
The suspects are currently in custody as efforts continue to track down fleeing accomplices and recover weapons used during the abduction.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, lauded the swift response and professionalism of the officers involved, reaffirming the Command’s resolve to rid the state of kidnappers, armed robbers, and illegal arms traffickers.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid shielding criminals, and promptly report suspicious movements to the nearest police station or the Command’s Control Room via 08036684974.
