The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) has honoured nine directing staff and senior officers with the prestigious Distinguished Fellow Award. Three deserving Staff members received the Outstanding Army War College Nigeria Outstanding Administrative Staff Award and Module Sponsor Awards, given to directing staff for 8 modules. The recognition was conferred on officers who have successfully served two terms at the College and completed a minimum of 18 calendar months of dedicated service. The award underscores AWCN’s commitment to acknowledging exceptional leadership, mentorship, and contributions to the institution’s academic and professional excellence.
In the same vein, the College inaugurated the maiden edition of the Outstanding Army War College Nigeria Outstanding Administrative Staff Award. This initiative is designed to celebrate soldiers, civilian staff, and ad hoc personnel who have demonstrated remarkable professionalism, teamwork, and dedication in the discharge of their duties. By recognising these exemplary efforts, the College seeks to foster a culture of diligence, discipline, and innovation across its workforce.
The nine senior officers who received the Distinguished Fellow Award were Brig. General SA Muhammed, Brig. General SE Okafor, Brig. General SO Aremu, Brig. General A.M Dikko, Brig. General A. U Abdul, Brig. General Okoloayu, Brig. General I E Buhari, Brig. General AO Balogun, and Brig. General MI Lemu.
Also, the Outstanding Army War College Nigeria Outstanding Administrative Staff Award were presented in three categories. Staff Sergeant Idris Duada wins Outstanding Army War College Nigeria Soldier Staff of the Year, Mr James Danaladi received Outstanding Army War College Nigeria Civilian Staff of the Year, while Mr Haruna Ibrahim received Outstanding Army War College Nigeria Ad hoc Staff of the Year.
The host also presented an award for deserving participants of the AWCN Course 9/2025 College Paper Awards. There were also Module Sponsor Awards, given to directing staff for 8 modules. Brig. General IE Buhari sponsored the Foundation Module, Military operations theory of war at the moment was sponsored by Colonel OG Olayinka, Leadership Module sponsored by Brig. General AA Sambo, military history was sponsored by Colonel EM Shoda, operational act and Campaign for freedom sponsored by Group Captain AE Yahaya, and Brig. General AE sponsored the National Secretary of International Defence, Interagency Operation and Conversation.
Colonel DK Musa won the Best Paper in Policy, Colonel AO Ogidan received the Best Paper in Evaluation and Procedure, Best Paper in Operation was presented to Colonel SU James, Colonel OO Okedigba received Best Paper in Administrative, Colonel MM Bello received Best Paper in Logictics, Colonel AA Nikoro takes Best Paper in Standard and Evaluation, and Colonel SO Buhari received Best Paper in Transformation and Innovation.
Others are Colonel MI Abdulraman received the Best Paper in Civil Military Affairs; Colonel RA Bello, who won Best Paper in Career Planning; Colonel DO Ogueri, who won the Best Paper in Special Services and Programme; Colonel SY Hassan won Best Paper in Personnel Management; Colonel OA Shebiotimo won Best Paper in Legal Services, and Wing Commander AN Onalaja received Commandant Paper Award.
According to the Commandant, Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Major General Umar Alkali, the awards not only highlight the College’s appreciation for outstanding service but also serve as a strategic tool for motivating others.
He emphasised that such recognitions are expected to inspire personnel to raise the bar of performance and align their efforts with the institution’s core values of excellence, integrity, and national service.
