Army Officers Wife Sets Husband Ablaze At Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, in Akwa Ibom

A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has died from severe burn injuries after his wife allegedly set him ablaze during a domestic dispute at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to security sources, the tragic incident occurred on September 22, 2025. Lt. Haruna, who also served as a medical doctor and Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) with the 6 Battalion, was reportedly involved in a heated argument with his wife, identified as Mrs. Samson Haruna. The altercation allegedly escalated, leading the wife to pour petrol on him and set him on fire.

The officer sustained critical burns and was initially stabilised at the Military Reference Section (MRS) within the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for advanced medical care. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Military authorities confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
