In a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against banditry and kidnapping, troops of 2 Division/Sector 3 Operation FANSAN YAMA have successfully rescued 21 kidnapped victims during coordinated operations across Kwara and Kogi States.
The victims, comprising 14 males, 5 females, 1 infant, and 4 Chinese nationals, were rescued on 17 October 2025 following intensified clearance operations by troops of 12 Brigade Lokoja and 22 Armoured Brigade Ilorin.
According to reports, the victims had been abducted from various locations within the two states, with some held in captivity for over four months.
Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the development in a statement released on 17 October 2025.
The sustained offensive forced the kidnappers to release their captives as troops maintained pressure on the criminal hideouts. Upon rescue, the victims received first aid and relief materials coordinated by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander Sector 3 Operation FANSAN YAMA, Major General C.R. Nnebeife.
Major General Nnebeife expressed sympathy for the victims and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s resolve to continue the onslaught against all criminal elements threatening peace and stability in the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
“There will be no hiding place for bandits and other criminals within our operational areas,” the GOC declared, commending the troops for their gallantry and dedication.
The rescued victims, many of whom were weak and unable to walk due to exhaustion, were evacuated to a military medical facility for comprehensive treatment. They are reported to be responding positively and will be reunited with their families once fully recovered.
Major General Nnebeife also extended appreciation to the Nigerian Air Force for providing consistent air support during the operations and commended the cooperation of other security agencies in tackling insecurity across the region.
He directed the brigades involved to sustain the current momentum and intensify efforts to restore lasting peace and security across Kwara, Kogi, and adjoining states under the Division’s jurisdiction.
