Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have successfully rescued two kidnapped officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service during a daring operation in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
Acting Media Information Officer, HQ JTF Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, revealed in a statement that the rescue operation took place on Friday, 26 September 2025, following credible intelligence from an appropriate superior authority regarding the abduction of David Iorwuese James and Orasuur Oliver, both serving immigration officers.
According to him, the troops swiftly launched a coordinated search-and-rescue mission targeting Tse Tembe and Adamawa Village, within the Azendeshi Council Ward of Ukum LGA. The well-executed operation forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee, leading to the successful rescue of the officers at Adamawa Village.
The victims are currently in the safe custody of the troops, where they are receiving preliminary medical attention and undergoing debriefing.
The Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism, bravery, and swift response. He emphasized that the operation demonstrates the commitment of OPWS to safeguarding citizens, protecting farmers, and enhancing food security in Benue and neighboring states.
“This successful mission underscores our determination to respond promptly to distress calls and tackle the threats posed by criminal elements in the region,” Major General Gara stated.
He further appealed to local communities to provide timely and credible intelligence to security forces, stressing that collaboration between security agencies and residents is crucial in curbing banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by OPWS to secure rural communities and maintain stability in the North Central region.
