The President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Gwabin Musa, has announced a landmark initiative to provide 100% scholarships for children of Nigeria’s fallen military and police officers, ensuring they have access to quality education and life-changing opportunities.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba on Wednesday, Mrs. Musa unveiled plans for the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy, a world-class national reference school in Abuja, conceived as a living legacy to honor Nigeria’s fallen heroes.
In a press statement signed by the Liaison Officer, DEPOWA, Major HT Tagwai on Thursday, Mrs Musa revealed that Phase 1 of the Academy will be commissioned in September 2026, offering free, full scholarships to qualified children of fallen officers while also admitting children from surrounding communities to foster national unity and cohesion.
“This Academy will forever symbolize our promise that the sacrifices of our gallant heroes will never be forgotten. Every qualified child of a fallen hero will receive automatic full scholarship, giving them the tools, education, and confidence to shape their destinies and lead with distinction,” Mrs. Musa declared.
The DEPOWA President also disclosed that the visit coincided with a training seminar for widows of fallen heroes drawn from Delta, Edo, Anambra, and Enugu States. The program aims to provide emotional support, financial literacy, and empowerment skills to widows grappling with the trauma of loss.
In addition, she highlighted the association’s “Thank You to Our Troops” Campaign, a 12-month nationwide initiative designed to appreciate, celebrate, and support members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces and Police.
Mrs. Musa commended Governor Oborevwori for his administration’s investments in youth empowerment and women’s development, particularly ICT training and women-focused skill acquisition programs.
Governor Oborevwori applauded DEPOWA’s initiatives and pledged continued support for military families and widows of fallen heroes in the state.

DEPOWA is a non-governmental organization that unites the spousal associations of Nigeria’s military and police service arms, that is, the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA, and Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA)
Originally formed as a platform for companionship and mutual support, DEPOWA has evolved into a humanitarian and developmental organization, providing skills training, scholarships, health and wellness programs, and support for widows and orphans of fallen heroes nationwide.
