Death of Arise News Anchor Somtochukwu Regrettable – Information Minister

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has described the death of Arise News anchor, Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, as regrettable and a grievous loss to her family, colleagues, the Nigerian media industry, and the nation at large.

In a condolence letter addressed to the Chairman of Arise News, Chief Nduka Obaigbena, and signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, the Minister said Ms. Maduagwu was a vibrant and dedicated professional whose work resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond.

“I write to convey our deepest condolences to you and the entire ARISE News family on the shocking and untimely death of your esteemed anchor, Ms. Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who by every account was a vibrant and dedicated news anchor, consummate lawyer, and a model of professionalism,” the letter read in part.

Idris expressed sadness over the “heinous incident that cut down a promising young journalist in her prime,” describing her passing as a grievous loss to the entire media fraternity and the nation.

He further assured that government would ensure a swift investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The Minister extended heartfelt sympathy to Ms. Maduagwu’s parents, siblings, colleagues, and loved ones, praying that God grants them the fortitude to bear the painful loss.
