The remains of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr Akinloye Iyanda Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland and retired Nigerian Army Major, were laid to rest on 8 August 2025 at the Cathedral Church of Saint Peter’s Cemetery, Ibadan. The revered monarch, who ascended the throne on 12 July 2024, was accorded full military honours in recognition of his distinguished service to the nation.
Born on 5 July 1935 in Ibadan, Oba Olakulehin’s life journey spanned academia, military service, and traditional leadership. A graduate of Yaba College of Technology with qualifications in Building and Civil Engineering, he joined the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers via Direct Short Service Commission in 1970, rising to the rank of Major before voluntarily retiring in 1979.
During his service, he held notable positions including Troops Commander, Officer Commanding Engineer Regiments, and Staff Officer at the 43 Engineer Brigade.
The burial ceremony drew dignitaries from across Nigeria, including Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, senior military officers, royal fathers, government officials, and well-wishers.
The General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Maj Gen OG Onubogu, led the military delegation, while family, friends, and admirers paid their final respects to a monarch remembered for his professionalism, patriotism, and dedication both in and out of uniform.
