In a major breakthrough against transnational organized crime, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully repatriated a high-profile Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China.
The operation, coordinated by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, was described as a landmark feat by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a press statement on Sunday.
Qisheng, a notorious gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for orchestrating violent organized crimes, had fled his home country in 2024 after a warrant for his arrest was issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County. He was tracked, placed under surveillance, and eventually arrested in Abuja on August 8, 2025.
After due processes were concluded, the fugitive was repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under the police-to-police cooperation framework facilitated by INTERPOL.
“The successful repatriation underscores our commitment to ensuring that no fugitive finds safe haven in Nigeria,” Adejobi said, noting that the operation highlights the strength of global security partnerships in tackling the complex threats of international crime syndicates.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, commended the collaboration, assuring that the Force will continue to strengthen intelligence-sharing and operational cooperation with international partners.
He stressed that the arrest and transfer of Qisheng sent a clear message to criminal elements worldwide: “Nigeria will never be a hiding place for fugitives.”
