Cybercrime Crackdown: Police Convict 21 Foreign Nationals in Abuja Internet Fraud Case

0 Admin

The Nigeria Police Force has secured the conviction of 21 foreign nationals linked to a major cybercrime syndicate uncovered in Abuja in November 2024.

The high-profile case, which involved large-scale internet fraud and hacking operations, marks a significant step in the country’s fight against cyber-related offences.

Force Public Relations Officer DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi said the convictions follow a coordinated raid on November 3, 2024, in Jahi, Abuja, where operatives arrested 130 suspects — including 113 foreigners, mostly of Chinese and Malaysian origin, and 17 Nigerian collaborators. Robust digital forensic evidence and expert testimonies were key to securing the verdicts.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to dismantling cybercriminal networks, warning that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for such activities.

Prosecution of the remaining suspects continues in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice.
