Police Crack Down on Gun Running: 5 Arms Dealer Suspects Paraded, 17 Rifles, Revolver, Amminition Recovered

... As IGP Re-echoes Directive To Mop Up Arms

The Nigeria Police Force today paraded five (5) suspects involved in trans-border gun running. They were apprehended by operatives of the FID-IRT on the 18th of November, 2024 in Zamfara State.

The suspects identified as Adamu Noma, a 56 years old man has been in the gun running business for 15 years. He was introduced to the business by his brother called Amodu who is dead. 

Matthew Audu is from Plateau State. He confessed to be a gunrunners since February 2024. Before February, he was manufacturing locally made guns but decided to start making AK-47 Riffle. He confessed to be manufacturing of arms and ammunition. He said he inherited the arms and ammunition business from his late grandfather who manufactures locally made guns for sale to bandits and armed robbers. He said so far this year, he has produced three riffles and two riffles were sold for two hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N250,000) while one was caught with him during arrest.

Another member of the syndicate is Andrew Poyi, a tricycle rider who takes delivery of the manufactured arms and ammunition, packed inside sew dust bags and transported it to the receivers at the rate of ten thousand Naira (N10,000).

The last member of the syndicate are Aminu Sani and Aminu Talha.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi while parading these suspects revealed that upon arrest and conducted search, 10 locally fabricated Ak-47 rifles, 5 Isreali Ak-47 rifles, 1 revolver pistol, 1 pump action rifle, 20 rounds of Ak-47 ammunition, and 1 welding machine for fabrication of rifles were recovered from the suspect.

These feats, according to ACP Adejobi and several more recorded by police operatives across the country are indications of the steadfastness and commitment of the current police leadership to decimate and subdue criminal activities and insecurity in general in the country. 

The Nigeria Police Force in its unyielding resolution and unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, continues to work tirelessly to prevent and combat all forms of crime and criminality. 

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has re-echoed his directive to operatives of the Force, particularly, tactical units, to mop up every illegal arms and ammunition, and see to the total dismantling of local manufacturers of illicit arms and ammunition and dangerous weapons by all means.
