The leaders of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria, have praised the Chief of Defence Staff ( CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa for his uncommon leadership qualities and neutrality in the discharge of his responsibilities.
Dr Bashir Aliyu Umar said this when he led the team on a courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff ( CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa today, 9 November, 2023 at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
The team leader, Dr Bashir Aliyu Umar said the visit is to seek first hand information on the general efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) towards addressing insecurity in Nigeria.
He said the Council membership is composed of respected Islamic leaders who have direc access and impact on ordinary Nigerians.
According to the professor, these leaders are " actively involved in appealling to the common Nigerians through their daily contact". He also called for interactive approach and collective responsibility in fighting the menace of insecurity in Nigeria.
While appealing for the re-examination of the existing process of securing the nation, he added that " there can never be peace without justice".
Other speakers at the event praised the CDS for his uncommon leadership qualities and neutrality in the discharge of his responsibilities. They also called for team work and the use of modern technology to fight insecurity.
General Musa is his response welcomed the delegation and expressed his optimism in ending insecurity in the country. The CDS said the composition of the council membership and the zeal to visit DHQ with open mind for truth, showed the seriouness to arresting the scourge.
He added that AFN has remained very professional in their conducts during operations. He however noted that there are few bad eggs among the troops, which he promises will be filttered out.
The CDS disclosed that during his tenure as the theatre Commander in the North East, about 75,000 members of the Boko Haram and family surrendered. The numbers have now risen above 100,00. He assured the visitors of his readiness to partner with religious organisations to resolve security challenges.
The CDS pledged for improvement in military operations, while calling for new innovation to arrest insecurity in Nigeria.
