... crowned champions of the National Volleyball Premier league 2023

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla has today Tuesday, 28th November, 2023 received trophies from the CNS Spikers Volleyball team after winning the 1st position (Male Category) in the National  Division I league 2023 and 1st Position National Volleyball Premier league for female category in the just concluded National Volleyball Premier league 2023.

Presenting the trophies, the Chairman Nigerian Navy Volleyball Association and Chairman, CNS Spikers Volleyball Club, Commander MA Muye noted that the team gained promotion to the National Volleyball Premier league for female and National Division I for male respectively in 2023 and after the male team topped both 1st & 2nd Phases of the National Division 1 league that was played in Owerri, Imo State in Jun 23 and in Kaduna in Oct 23.

He said the male team was unbeaten in all the matches played and were crowned champions in Kaduna in Oct 23. Consequently, the Team has gained promotion to play in the Premier league in 2024.

Commander Muye  added that the female team also topped the 1st & 2nd Phases of the Premier league played in Abuja in Jul 23 & Nov 23 and have been crowned champions of the National Volleyball Premier league 2023.

"It is also pertinent to mention that the male team won 5 individual awards including the MVP. Likewise, the female won 3 Individual Awards including the MVP." he affirmed

"It was observed that some of our players are aging and some may suffer physical injuries and would require replacement from time to time. It is pertinent to mention that some young and talented players have been constantly identified and lured into the NN to beef up the team. Some of the players seated here today, passed out from training school either last year or this year while some are presently undergoing training at NNBTS.

"It is therefore suggested that special consideration could be given to such players who are qualified to further beef up and strengthen the team especially now that both teams will be flying the NN Flag in the National Volleyball Premier League. Additionally, the NN could consider occasional special recruitment for sportsmen and women in various sporting events as done in other sister Services to enable us compete favourably with other teams." he said

He requested for  SPECIAL RECRUITMENT FOR SPORTSMEN/WOMEN, MOTIVATION OF SPORTSMEN/WOMEN IN NN, TRAINING CAMP AND FACILITIES

Receiving the trophies, the Chief of Navy Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla ably represented by the Chief of Administration (Navy), Rear Admiral Kenneth Ezete advise the team as they engage in sporting activities, they should develop themselves beyond physical aspect of sport. They should consider education and skill acquisition because of their retirement season.

The CNS assured them to consider their request of special recruitment of sportsmen and women into the team. He congratulated the CNS Spikers Male and Female teams who were again, nominated based on excellent performances to represent Nigeria at the African Club Team

He pledged to always motivate sportsmen and women and to construction of a sports camp with an indoor and other recreational facility in Abuja.

He also promised to provide vehicle for movement to match venues after the Chairman of the team suggested a dedicated Coaster Bus to ease the movement of the team just like the same privilege being enjoyed by COAS volleyball team.

The Chief of the Naval Staff Spikers Volleyball Club came into existence in 2021 following the approval from NHQ for the Team to take part in the Nigeria Volleyball League in order to restore NN's lost glory in sports which has suffered over the years due to series of activities.
