Barely One week after the suspension of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR, has approved the indefinite suspension from office of Mr. AbdulRasheed Bawa, CON, as the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.
According to our source, this follows the different allegations leveled against the EFCC Chairman has been involving in and weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.

Director, Information, Willie Bassey said, Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The Zamfara governor had alleged that the EFCC boss also had corrupt cases revolving around him and should therefore resign to allow for proper investigation.
14 hours ago, the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, said that poverty and unemployment are no justification for involvement in computer-related frauds.
He said poverty should not be an excuse for criminality just as unemployment should not be a basis for defrauding others of their hard-earned incomes by youths, who are involved in internet frauds.
Bawa stated this on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 in a lecture titled “The Roles of Youths in Curbing Economic and Financial Crimes” delivered at the Orientation/ Matriculation programme for fresh students of the Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos.
Bawa, who was represented by ACE1 Michael Wetkaz, Commander, Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC, described the youth as one of the most strategic stakeholders in nation building, adding that they could confront and conquer corrupt practices if they show willingness to be change agents in their various engagements.
Abdulrasheed Bawa was the fourth Executive Chairman of the EFCC. He was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on February 16, 2021, and confirmed by the Senate on February 24, 2021.
His ascent to the exalted office holds much significance. He is the first regular EFCC personnel to have the privilege to mount the saddle.Others before him were either serving or retired police officers.
Bawa’s emergence as EFCC boss is not fortuitous. The EFCC Chairman received his education at the Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, where he earned a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and a Master’s Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy. He was recruited into the EFCC in 2004 as a member of the Cadet Officer Course 1, and trained at the Nigeria Police College Ikeja, Lagos.
