Nigerian Immigration Service Dismisses Four Officers, Demotes 14 others

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has demoted 14 officers for corruption.

In addition, 22 other officers were disciplined.

In a statement issued onTuesday in Abuja, NIS spokesman Tony Akuneme said four were dismissed and 14 officero demoted for various offenses for which they appeared before the Orderly Room Trial Committee of the Service.

Tony Akuneme explained that the move was part of efforts to ensure that Nigerians receive optimal service delivery.

According to Akuneme, four other personnel were discharged and acquitted, while two were redeployed to different locations.

“Eleven people were issued warning letters, and one was forced to retire.The Committee reports that 11 personnel are still awaiting trial.” he noted.

Tony Akuneme stated that the Comptroller General of Immigration, Isah Jere Idris, assured the public that all offenders would face consequences.
