The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has called on stakeholders in the nation’s electoral process to contribute towards the successful conduct of 2023 general election.
FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Yahaya Bello made the call during a meeting with major stakeholders for their imputs and contributions to next month’s polls.
He emphasized on the need for political office holders in the six Area councils of the FCT to mobilize residents for collection of their Permanent Voter Cards, PVC.
According to him, INEC is currently distributing PVCs across the 62 political wards in the FCT.
Bello maintained that the commission was currently working out modalities to migrate some people in large polling units with over 1000 voters to empty units for easy process during the elections.
The FCT INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner however appealed to political parties to present their party agents through INEC’s portal.
This, according to him will enable the commission provide the necessary training for the agents.
Representative of the FCT Police Command, Mr Emmanuel Inyang said security agencies were ready to discharge their duties professionally to ensure peaceful conduct of the general election.
FCT Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council, Adefisayo Makanjuola said the council was planning to embark on a Peace Walk in all the six Area councils on the need to vote and ensure peaceful conduct of the polls.
The Representative of the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Mudawuya appealed to political leaders to shun activities that could hamper the conduct of the polls.
Speaking on behalf of civil society groups, Eniola Cole said non governmental organizations would continue to monitor all processes leading to the peaceful conduct of this year’s polls.
Most of the stakeholders appealed to INEC to address challenges that came with the use of Biometric Voter Accreditation System, BVAS in previous elections.
