1. NIGERIAN ARMY AVIATION SET FOR TAKE OFF AS INDIA BEGINS PHASE-II FLYING TRAINING FOR 6 OFFICERS.
Six officers of the Nigerian Army Aviation will be imparted 70 hours of training each on Chetak helicopters. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Monday announced the signing of a contract with the Nigerian Army for imparting Phase-II flying training on Chetak helicopters for six officers of the Nigerian Army Aviation Wing. The training began on Monday and is planned to be completed by December this year, the aerospace firm said. HAL added that as part of the effort, each Nigerian officer will be imparted 70 hours of flying training.
2. OPERATION CHECKMATE: MILITARY POLICE PARADES 12 ARMY IMPOSTORS IN LAGOS, OGUN.
The 81 Division Nigerian Army Military Police Personnel have arrested over 12 suspected impostors fully dressed in military camouflage uniforms portraying the Nigerian Army in bad light during OPERATION CHECKMATE within Lagos and States. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army (NA) Major General Umar Thama Musa in a press briefing dispelled the unfounded narrative that all illicit acts committed by persons dressed in military uniforms are always military personnel.
3. REPENTANT BANDIT ATTACKS FORMER COLLEAGUES, RESCUES 38 IN ZAMFARA.
A repentant bandit popularly known as Smally, led some courageous locals to the enclaves his former colleagues, left scores dead and freed about 38 kidnapped victims in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State. A resident of the community, Umaru Usman confirmed the report said; “The repentant bandit first killed some of the bandits and freed 16 kidnapped victims and took them to a nearby bush around Sakajiki village from where they were evacuated by security operatives. “After some time, another 22 were also freed and brought out to the same spot and also evacuated by security operatives and moved to Gusau.”
4. TRAIN ATTACK: NYCN GIVES MINISTER 48HOURS ULTIMATUM TO RESIGN OR BE SACK.
The National youth council of Nigeria NYCN has called for the resignation and sack of the minister of transport for exalting his personal interest over a national tragedy due to the recent Abuja – kaduna rail track bombing. The NYCN said the track bombing which claimed several lives and many of youths unaccounted for was neglected by Hon. Rotimi Amechi which hence his presidential declaration.
5. SCORES OF TERRORISTS ELIMINATED, AS ARMY TROOPS RECOVER FIREARMS IN LAKE CHAD.
Gallant troops of Operation LAKE SANITY, in Monday, neutralised several Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in what believed to be part of the ongoing clearance operation at the Lake Chad axis. In a statement posted on the HQ Nigerian Army’s Facebook page, the Military High Command added that the troops also recovered weapons and several other equipment. The post further showed that Boko Haram/ISWAP Central Vehicle Fabrication Workshop and several bunkers were also discovered and destroyed.
6. SENATE PASSES BILL TO ESTABLISH RESEARCH BUREAU FOR ARMED FORCES.
The Senate, on Wednesday, passed a bill seeking to establish the Defence Research and Development Bureau in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. The bill to establish the Defence Research And Development Bureau seeks to initiate new scientific, technological and environmental research on defence matters. It also seeks to facilitate collaboration with other national and international institutions in the promotion and transfer of science and technology relating to defence.
7. INSECURITY: CUSTOMS INTERCEPTS 206,000 MACHETES IMPORTED FROM GHANA AT LAGOS PORT.
The Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), on Wednesday, said it intercepted 206,000 pieces of brand new machetes imported into the country from Ghana. Speaking at his maiden press conference, the Customs Area Controller, Tin-Can Island, Lagos, Compt. Adekunle Oloyede, said the importation contravened Sections 46, 47 and 161 of the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA) Cap 45 LFN 2004.
8. OLU OF WARRI PLEDGES SUPPORT TO MILITARY IN ACHIEVING ITS OPERATIONAL MANDATE, DONATES LAND.
The Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ogiame Atuwatse III has pledged to continue to support the military in achieving its operational mandate in the region by ensuring peace in the creeks. While expressing his appreciation to the Nigerian Army for its support to the Itsekiri nation in particular and Warri Kingdom in general, the highly revered Royal father stated that he had donated a piece of land for construction of the permanent site for 90 Amphibious Battalion at Koko as a mark of appreciation to the Nigerian Army for the peace and tranquility currently enjoyed in his domain.
9. NIGERIA, SOUTH AFRICA RENEW PARTNERSHIP ON DRUG WAR.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, popularly called HAWKS have agreed to collaborate in tackling the menace of drug trafficking between the two countries. This was the highpoint of discussions at a virtual meeting on Monday 11th April 2022 between the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) and the National Head of South Africa’s DPCI, Lt. Gen. SG Lebeya along with members of their teams.
10. NATIONAL SECURITY: NAF FLAGS-OFF RECRUITMENT EXERCISE FOR NON-TRADESMEN, WOMEN TO INCREASE WORKFORCE.
In its continued effort aimed at boosting its recruitment drive to tackle various internal security challenges in the country, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced recruitment exercise for qualified candidates as Trades and Non-Trades Airmen/Airwomen for Basic Military Training Course 43/2022. Director of Public Relations & Information Air Commodore Gabriel Gabkwet in a statement said, the online registration which commenced on 11 April 2022 will end on 22 May 2022.
11. ADDRESSING BUHARI AS MAJOR GENERAL IS ABUSE OF PRESS FREEDOM – LAI MOHAMMED.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Minister stated this on Tuesday when executives of the International Press Institute (IPI), Nigeria chapter, paid a courtesy visit to him at his office in Abuja, the nation’s capital. 12. 677 DRUG TRAFFICKERS JAILED, 3,359 ARRESTED, 65,915.891KG SEIZED IN Q1.
As the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, intensifies the war against illicit drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria, no less than Six Hundred and Seventy Seven (677) traffickers have been convicted and sentenced to various jail terms between January and March 2022, with a total of Three Thousand Three Hundred and Fifty Nine (3,359) arrests and 65,915.891 kilograms of assorted drugs seized within the same period.
13. NIS DISCOVERS BARRETTA PISTOL FROM AMERICAN PASSENGER AT LAGOS AIRPORT.
The Murtala Mohammed International Airport Command has discovered a handgun Pistol Barretta in possession of an in-bound passenger aboard United Airlines from Houston United States of America.
14. FINALLY, SENATE PASSES PEACE CORPS BILL.
The Peace Corps Bill sponsored by the senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has been passed by the Senate. The bill seeks legal recognition for the establishment of the Peace Corps as a government parastatal, thereby creating job opportunities for graduates and non-graduates. The Corps has at least 187,000 volunteers across the country.
15. ARMY COMMENDS EFCC ON GOOD RESULTS.
The General Officer Commanding, GOC, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Major General O.O. Oluyede has commended the EFCC, saying it is a government agency delivering good results to the nation. He stated this on Wednsday, April 13, 2022 when the Port Harcourt Zonal Commander of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Nwanneka Nwokike paid him a Courtesy Visit.
16. POLICE ANNOUNCE DATES FOR CBT EXAMS FOR RECRUITMENT.
The Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission have announced the dates for the Computer Based Test for its ongoing recruitment. This was announced by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement he issued on Tuesday.
17. SECURITY AGENTS AIDING BANDITS, ALLEGE REPS, DEMAND NSA, MINISTER’S SACKING.
The House of Representatives has condemned the rising insecurity in the country, especially the recent killings in Benue, Taraba and Plateau states. The lawmakers, who stated this at the plenary on Wednesday, demanded the removal of the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.) and the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (retd.). The legislators also alleged that security agents were aiding bandits and other criminals, adding that huge security funds were not being justified.
18. NATIONAL SECURITY; SENATE PASSES NIGERIAN HUNTER COUNCIL'S BILL TO LAW.
The Nigeria Senate today passed into law the Bill for an Act to establish the Nigeria Hunters Council (NHC) with the mandate to prevent Forest Crime, Prevention of Bush and Forest Fire. Arrest, Investigates and hands over to the Police for further prosecution any person founds committing any form of Criminal activities in the Forest. Any other Matters as Directed by the Minister of Interior. The Bill, which was first tendered before the Senate by Senator Abiodun Olujimi, the former Senate Minority Leader on the 15th of June, 2020 for the first reading and was read some few Months later for the Second time.
19. UNKNOWN GUNMEN ATTACK POLICE STATION IN ANAMBRA, KILL FOUR.
EMERGENCY DIGEST- Unknown Gunmen have attacked the police station in Atani, the headquarters of Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State, killing four policemen, including a female cop on duty. It was gathered that the gunmen launched the attack at about 1am and took everybody unawares. The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga has confirmed the attack.
20. LECTURER, TAILOR KILLED AS HOODLUMS CLASH IN JOS.
A university lecturer, Sani Muhammad Mazadu and a tailor, Safiyanu Sa’id, have been killed during a clash between two rival groups popularly known as Sara Suka around Yankwaba, in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. Mazadu and Safiyanu Saeed died in the late hours of Monday, April 11, as a result of injuries they sustained from the clash.
