Candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Saturday’s local
government election in Ondo State have been declared winners in both the
councillorship and chairmanship elections held in all the 18 local government
areas of the state.
The
main opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the
Social Democratic Party (SDP) boycotted the election.
Chairman
of Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), Prof. Olugbenga Ige,
who announced the results of the election at ODIEC head office in Akure, said
PDP candidates won in 202 wards of the 18 council areas of the state.
Ige
said the councillorship candidates of PDP won in 202 wards, while candidate of
the ACPN won a ward at Oba Ile ward 09 in Akure North Local Government Area of
the state.
He
said results of the councillorship election had already been declared in all
the 203 wards where the election held.
The
ODIEC chairman, who informed that 14 political parties participated in the
election, said the election was free, fair and credible.
He
gave the names of the political parties that participated in the election as
ADC, LP, PPN, PDC, PDM, ACPN, UPN, AP, DPP, DPC, PDP, APA, NCP and PRP.
He
announced that PDP won in Akoko North East Local Government Area with 32,141
votes, Akoko North West with 28,690, Akoko South East with 14, 791, Akoko South
West with 31, 292 and Akure North with 10,923.
In
Akure South Local Government, PDP had 41,897, Owo 40,384, Ose 28,233, Ondo West
42, 701, Ese Odo 35, 294, Idanre 25, 170, Ifedore 26,713, Ilaje 53,272, Ile
Oluji/Okeigbo 19,055, Irele 27,342, Odigbo 35, 955 and Okitipupa 42,997.
The
ODIEC boss said copies of the results of the elections had already been
dispatched to the political parties that participated in the election and
security agencies in the state.
Ige
said the combined efforts of security agencies in the state led to the
peaceful conduct of the exercise.
