Communities protest power outage,poor maintenance issue IKEDC warning letter


Hundreds of people who are residents in Oke Aro, Akera, Oju Irin, Agbado and other communities in Ojodu and Iju local council areas of Lagos state on monday marched on the Ikeja Distribution company (IKEDC) undertaken offie in the area over what they described excessive billing, epileptic power supply, No meter and poor maintenance.

The residents, who stage a peaceful protest to express their displeasure, accused the power distribution copany of being fraudulent in its dealings, insisted that tge metters meant for the areas was being diverted to another area.
According to the Chairman of Joint Action Committe ElectricityDistribution company, customer consultative Forun, Mr Olawoye Ayodele, commersial activities in these communitues have been paralysed.
They also accused the company of issuing them crazy bills and some of issuing them crazy blls and some of the resident didnt have meter. Some victims of excessive billing said they were billed N52,000 for the current month for only one room apartment and a shop.Also the Balogun of Oke- Aro, Chief Ebenezer Oloyede who represented the Monarch,lamented how the community who gave the Electricity company acres of land, commissioned by the former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan suffers the power outage in the area and which as
affected the Monarch in his kingdom
Reacting to this, the head of Corporate Communication and Strategy, Mr Ayeni Olusola said, Meters will be installed in the affected areas as advertised in media, for about six hundred thousand meters are already tested and certified to be installed one after the other in all the affected areas.
He reiterated the company's commitment to serve its customers better and appeal for the community cooporation and patient as installation would be done in 6 months.
