Ebola Virus: Animal Hunters’ protest "“absolutely wrong” and “unscientific” Ban of Eating Bush Meats

The Association of Animal Hunters of Nigeria has described as “absolutely wrong” and “unscientific” the directive by the Federal Ministry of Health that Nigeria should avoid eating certain types of bush animals or bush meat as part of measures to avoid contracting the Ebola virus disease.
The association, while briefing journalists in Benin, lamented that the directive by the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, advising Nigerians to stay away from the local delicacy was currently threatening the livelihood of millions of animal hunters. They said it had caused their family great pain.
It urged the Health minister to explain to all Nigerians how the virus could have been transmitted through the late Patrick Sawyer and those who had direct contact with him in the aircraft and Lagos, and have had relationship with wild animals in Nigeria “within a period of three weeks.”
