Photos: Giwa Polytechnic Students Go On Rampage Over Increase In Tuition Fees

The Students of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo, Ondo today protest against the increase in their tuition fee. Students of Ondo State Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo, Ondo state early hour of this morning began a major protest against the rise in tuition fees at the institution. The state-owned polytechnic had jerked annual school fees from ₦21,300 for students in National Diploma in sciences to N58,300 ND and ₦53,800 to 73,000 and ₦78,500.

The management of the school also imposed additionally ₦20,000 on non-indigenes.

The new fee regime became effective shortly after Governor Olusegun Mimiko won its second term election in the state. However, majority of the impressed students students could not afford the fees and had engaged in dialogue with the school management until riots broke out today.



According to the mail I received dp from one of the concerned students....
"THE PROTEST AND ITS POLITICS. #RUGIPO protests,beginning in the hour of 6am in the ♏õƦπiÏ€g,the subtle but fierce battle for the soul of Rufus Giwa polytechnic student and the rector ,prof Ajibefun who his term increase the school fee of the school to a total amount that wasn't been pleased by the student. As hunger pangs to bite the ranks of the world -be "revolutionaries"W̶̲̥̅̊iâ„“â„“ start to crack. In these instances mass poverty in the land became a tool in the hands of the rulers. This make the top leaders the Student Union Government(SUG) in the school to meet with the rector days back before the protect but, which the result was not positive with the student. To top it off ,everyone from within  and out of the school protect with the move of agreement between the Inspector general (IG)....at this point the student prepared different styles like,blocking of roads,singing, food preparation,etc."
